Elipse is a gastric balloon that is placed without the need for surgery, endoscopy or anesthesia. Its function is to facilitate weight loss in overweight and obese people when used in conjunction with a supervised diet and behavior modification program. The balloon is swallowed during a brief visit and is naturally eliminated about 16 weeks later.

The Ellipse Balloon is presented in a capsule with a thin tube. The capsule is swallowed and the doctor takes a quick x-ray to make sure the balloon is in the stomach. This is filled with 550 ml of liquid through the tube, which is then removed to complete the process. This process takes only about 15 minutes.

If you are unable to swallow the capsule easily, Elipse has an accessory that your doctor can gently use to help you swallow.

Some nausea and discomfort may be experienced during the first week after Ellipse placement. In those cases, the doctor may prescribe medication to make you feel better. It will also provide you with detailed information on the risks and benefits of Elipse.

We recommend drinking only liquids the first couple of days after the placement of the balloon. You can start solid foods when you feel better. Remember that the Elipse system is an aid for weight loss and cannot replace a healthy and balanced diet. Take advantage of the feeling of satiety provided by Elipse to consume smaller and healthier food servings.

The Elipse Balloon removes on its own, it is not necessary to go to the doctor. After about 16 weeks, Elipse is emptied and removed naturally.
